This is a specialized Gridfinity module designed for microscopy enthusiasts and professionals. It serves as a slide drying rack and a dust-proof storage system for standard microscope slides (76mm x 26mm).
While standard slide boxes are great for finished specimens, they often require slides to be stored vertically or lack sufficient airflow. This model is specifically engineered for the horizontal storage of freshly embedded slides. Additionally, the design is ideal for staining procedures, allowing you to keep multiple slides flat, stable, and organized while applying stains.
When working with slow-drying mounting media (such as Canada Balsam or Euparal), it is critical to keep the slides flat for an extended period (often weeks) while the solvent evaporates. These horizontal storage racks keep the specimen centered and ensure the medium thickness remains uniform. Furthermore, the system addresses dust protection: the most common enemy of a fresh slide is dust settling on the sticky medium. This stacking system solves this by creating a sealed environment for each layer.
I have uploaded combinations of the following features so you can print exactly what your laboratory workflow requires:
Ventilation Slots (Vents): Choose the version with side slits to promote airflow (recommended for drying). Choose solid walls for maximum dust protection.
Bottom Cutouts: Versions with holes underneath the slide slots allow you to push the slide up from the bottom, avoiding the need to touch the glass edges.
Support Bars (Minimal Surface): Raised bars on the tray floor minimize contact surface. Excellent if you are messy with mounting medium—prevents slides from sticking to the tray.
Spacers: Provides extra vertical clearance between stacked trays for thick preparations.
Rafts: No
Supports: No
Resolution: 0.20 mm
Infill: 15% (Gyroid or Grid)
Filament material: PLA, PETG, or ABS
Material Choice: Standard PLA is perfect for most uses. However, if you work with harsh solvents (like Xylene) in your lab, PETG or ABS is recommended for better chemical resistance.
Bridging: The versions with "Cutouts" and "Vents" rely on bridging. No supports are needed if your printer is well-calibrated for cooling.
Adhesion: As this is a large flat 4x4 Gridfinity base (~168mm wide), ensure your bed is clean to prevent warping at the corners. A small brim or "mouse ears" can help if you have adhesion issues.
