This tool is handy for quickly setting the tension on late model KTM/Husqvarna/Gas Gas 125-501 dirt bikes that has a specified slack of 55-58mm, measured between the top of the swing arm and the bottom of the chain.
Note: this has only been tested to work with the OEM chain slider. Dual sport models may need to remove the chain guard.
To use:
- Raise the rear wheel, completely unloading the suspension.
- Put the bike in gear and rotate the wheel forward so the bottom of the chain is taught.
- Slide the tool between the chain and the chain slider on the top of the swing arm, aligning it with the bolt that holds the chain slider to the swing arm.
- If the tool slides in with moderate pressure and causes the chain to be “loosely taught” all around, you've reached the correct chain slack. If you grab a link and rock it back and forth, it should wiggle a small amount.
