I had a request to make a platform that could hold objects and have a tube run through it for a pond filter.  It is designed to go inside a bucket so a tube can be inserted into the middle.  However, the object can be used for many other applications to provide a breathable platform.  The outer diameter is 9.5 in, the inner diameter is 1.5 in and the feet height are 1 in.

The object is too large to print as is on an MK4S print bed so I would recommend using the “cutting” feature in the Slicer software to cut it in half (or even quarters).  Then, flip the object over so the feet are facing up.  If printing with a larger print bed then cutting is not required.

Freecad file is attached for future desired modifications.  A couple of notes on the freecad file:

  • Ensure the MeshRemodel Addon is installed.  The sketches make use of the “SketchPlus” feature since each Sketch is polarized instead of polarizing each Pocket.
  • If the inner and/or outer diameter dimensions are altered you will need to figure out how to adapt the amount of holes necessary to make the pattern look symmetrical and properly polarized.
  • Spreadsheet controls most of the base dimensions.

Printing Instructions

There are really no specific settings so print with whatever material and infill desired.  Some tips:

  • Higher infill - Longer print time but object will weigh more
  • Lower infill - Shorter print time but object will weigh less
  • Speed Profile (MMU3) - Shorter print time but object will have a rougher finish
  • Structure Profile (MMU3) - Longer print time but object will have a smoother finish
  • PLA - Generally quicker print times than PETG but has low UV resistance
    • If the desire is to have this outside in the sun I would not recommend this
  • PETG - Slightly longer print times than PLA but has higher UV resistance
  • PCCF - Higher UV resistance and higher temperature resistance than PLA or PETG but material cost more to print, high mechanical strength
    • Requires hardened steel nozzle or diamond tipped nozzle as carbon fibers are abrasive material and will damage a regular brass nozzle over time quicky.
  • ASA - Higher UV resistance and higher temperature resistance but creates toxic fumes when printing which requires active filtration.

The picture shown was printed with Prusament PLA which I had left over at 5% infill.
