I'm using blender to assemble the frame before printing and check if it fit my need. And while trying to join two corners I've noticed a gap.
Is it normal or am I doing something wrong ? I've used the two corners from the 180mm set. Cheers ! (edited)

Hi. This is an issue that hasn't been reported before (as I can recall) so it may be your printer setup. All the corner pieces are exact 45 degree cuts so it might be due to warping or some tension on the printing plastic as it's extruded that's causing the issue. Maybe temperature? Uneven shrinkage might possibly cause this. Obviously the outer dimension is bigger than the inner. That, I'll admit, is a bit weird.

Hi again. I've just checked the files for the 180mm pieces and I have to apologize - these corners that should be 45 degree cuts are actually 44.13 degrees. No idea how that happened. It explains the gap, though.

I'll correct the files ASAP.

Don't tiny errors humble you?

Seriously, my error has cost you filament and time and I'm sincerely sorry for that. I always triple check details like these but somewhere in the process I screwed up here.

Nothing weird. No shrinkage. No printing errors on your part. Human error.

Great model, did do some changes, added a new side joiners with a small circle at the end which makes it not fall apart and also added new side clips that is cut in 2mm so that the frame sits flush against the wall these clips also have a hole in them for the string or wire to hang the frame on the wall. Else it printed well with PLA. (edited)

Thanks for your comments - all good ideas.

Bonjour!

est-il possible de faire des cadre de 24x18 cm ?

@lookpilki_4127633
La taille la plus proche serait de 9" x 7" (environ 228 x 178 mm).
(Google Translate)

With the clips from someone else at the back, the frame works great! Only feedback I have is that the parts don't always align because nothing holds them together. This can be masked with some chamfers, or maybe solved with some kind of clamping mechanism to hold the parts together?

Hello, great frame. Is there a possibility to create something to connect frame together, for various sizes, and orientations? Some kind of a clip from back side, maybe another version with cutouts to place the clip?
Thanks in advance for the response.

@MichalBernad_3630831
Thanks for your inquiry, Michal. Not sure exactly what you mean. What is the purpose of such a clip? can you produce a diagram or drawing, perhaps?

@paul020559 Thanks a lot for the response, I was looking for a possibility to attach frames together to create a cluster of frames with different sizes, please excuse the drawing. I was think Ing about some clip from back side to connected them.
Thanks for any answer in advance.

Nice design, but I think you have some mis alignment with the measurements. The 180 for example is composed of 4 pieces, but 1 of them is is not 180mm, it's 205 and it seems longer as well.

Same problem for the 160mm, one piece is 185mm, the other is 168mm, the third is 176mm.
Maybe I'm mistaken somehow.

Hi Roy. The measurements are as regards the finished frame sizes. For example 180 x 90 will fit a picture that is 180 x 90. The actual size of the frame will be larger allowing for the inserted picture and backing on the rabbit. the flat-ended pieces are designed to extend the corner lengths to give limited parametric frame sizes if you see what I mean.

This was done ages ago and I maybe didn't explain it very well.

Sorry for the confusion - hope this clarifies the issue.

Regards, Paul

I was thinking something like this where there could be a divider between the pictures. My intent is that I have 3 Topo maps of a large lake (still working on those as I mentioned ... new to 3d printing in any capacity -- But your frame is perfect, save Sizing (getting more comfortable with that) and new drawing/cutouts etc. so think of [][][] that can be stacked into a single hanging picture sxs. (hope this makes sense even tough the example is vertical)

@DanParizo_3352890
Hi Dan. Been working on your suggestion for a few hours and merging two side joiners doesn't work because of the structural nature of the joiners. No matter how it's done the only way is if the side pieces are double the thickness so you may as well just stick two or frames together sideways - it would have the same (rather ugly) look. However I'll try and work a way around it when I return from a brief weeks holiday next week.

Be in touch.

Regards, Paul

So I love this frame -- (still learning) but one thing I could request is a Middle divider such that you could print and create multi-frame pictures ? eg have 3 pictures side by side with dividers between the pictures. Any help appreciated! This is an awesome frame as it is!

@DanParizo_3352890
Hi Dan. Glad you like the print. Not sure what you mean by dividers...
Maybe you could upload a pick of something similar or even a sketch of what you have in mind?

Regards, Paul

I have some poster portfolio images that I want to frame, Will these fit? Im not sure how this works? Seems the double beveled pieces kinda limit the size? Im new to this and dont know how to seperate the 4 pieces in the files? My boards are 16 inch by 12 inch? Any help would be appreciated, Thank you Paul.

@FigitityKronk_350870
For a 16” x 12” print (or board) you’ll want to print 1 of the corner_joiners.stl file and 1 of the sides_8_inch.stl file (that’ll be your two 16” uprights). Then print 2 of the sides_6_inch.stl files (that’ll be your two 12” horizontals). You’ll then need to print 1 of the side_joiners.stl file to join the straight pieces together.

So you’ll have a corner piece then two 8” pieces joined with a side-joiner then another corner joiner and so on.

Just so we’re on the same page (or picture!) the sizes refer to the actual picture sizes – the frame will measure a little bigger (about 10mm larger all round) so where a file name says …8_inch it means the rabbit for the picture is for am 8” picture.

Hope that clarifies things for you.

Regards, Paul

@paul020559 Thank you so much, I really appreciate your work.

None of the files will make a complete frame. Each file needs 2 pieces with corners on both ends. (edited)
