I built this streaming boombox for my bathroom as I already have squeezelite-based players in all other rooms that are fed by a Lyrion Music Server.

Bill of Material

  • Louder-ESP32
    https://www.tindie.com/products/sonocotta/louder-esp32/
But easily adaptable to other electronics of course.
  • 2x Visaton FR-7
    https://www.visaton.de/de/produkte/chassis/breitband-systeme/fr-7-4-ohm
Should be easy to adapt for other speakers
  • Speaker Cloth, I used the following: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005007053654248.html
  • 4x Rubber Feet, size is parametric, I used 9.5mm 3M Bumpon
  • 6x Magnets, I used 8mm x 1.75 mm, but you can easily adapt the size in FreeCAD. 4
  • Mounting Hardware. The model is configured for M3 heatset insert, but parameters can be changed to fit other screws. The PCB domes use M2 inserts, but this should be changed to M2.5.
  • I used a USB-C to 12V 5.5x2.5mm DC Jack cable from AliExpress for the power supply. Please adapt the model to your need. You could also easily add a battery to it.
  • Some gasket material to improve sealing. I plan to add printable gaskets in the future.
  • Some dampening material to put inside the housing.

If you want to use the external antenna version, then you either need to cut out the hole in the backplate (closed by 0.5mm layer) or you can just change the pocket depth in the FreeCAD model.

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

There are many changes to the original, but I think it is still fair to list it as inspiration.

  • Parametric Design with FreeCAD source available
  • Magnetic Front with Speaker Cloth
  • ESP is mounted directly to the back plate, so no air vents and no internal electronics housing. The idea is to add a 25x25mm heatsink that protrudes through the back to the PCB bottom layer if needed.
  • Housing screws in the back are mounted flush
