This is a 12 color print lantern made for Fremont Luminata 2025. The theme is a variation on the “Hot Rat Summer” mosaic from Cal Anderson park.

I generated the original graphic using AI (I can't draw), then used vectorizer.io to split the graphic according to colors into various layers. Because my printer can only do five colors at a time, the lantern panes are printed in four parts, layered on top of each other:

Background colors:

  1. Transparent
  2. Red
  3. Dark Blue
  4. Green
  5. Light Blue

Foreground Colors:

  1. Light Blue
  2. Orange
  3. Yellow
  4. Purple
  5. Transparent

Rat colors:

  1. Transparent
  2. Red
  3. Grey
  4. Pink

Because the black petg was smearing into the other layers, I printed the black overlay on its own layer and used transparent petg on the other layers instead of black.

Once these layers are printed out, I then glued them together carefully on top of each other to create a layered stained glass effect. I printed four panes total, each with four parts.

The lantern base is one piece, the panes slide into the base. The interior was wrapped with led rope lights powered by a usb battery.
