Hi,

This model is another take of mine to create a "less-mess-incense-holder." All the models I've used so far had the same issue: ash kept falling outside the tray. Some time ago, I had the idea to burn incense sticks upside-down so that the ash would fall more predictably due to gravity.

My development started with the open version. It looks like a satellite dish, hence the name "SatDi" — short for "Satellite Dish." The set now includes 3 variants:

1) open version (upside-down), shaped like a satellite dish
2) closed version (upside-down)
3) closed version (upright)

Plus several clamp-ball variants for holding the incense sticks.

The design is:
- easy to print and assemble
- no glue nessecary
- suitable for incense sticks up to 25 cm (open version, upside-down) and 23 cm (closed version, upright)

My print settings:

  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm
  • Layer Height: 0.2 & 0.3 mm // 0.15 for the clamp-ball variants & screws
  • Walls: 3
  • Infill: 10% gyroid
  • Supports: yes, on the shell only, see pictures

Since my MK4 can only print up to 220 mm in Z and I messed up the design, I had to scale the Z-axis of the shell down to 82% in the slicer.

notes:

  • Print in PETG or another temperature-resistant material In the upside-down versions, the holder sphere sits directly in the path of rising smoke. Over time, discoloration and greasy buildup from the smoke will occur.
  • Do not print in white or light colors. All parts are exposed to heat and smoke, so over time the material will darken or get stained.
  • I recommend printing the case with narrow slots. My prototype uses the version with wider slots, but even there, ash can occasionally fall outside.
  • I don't recommend using a silk filament. I printed my prototype in copper silk PLA, and the middle part with the slots and near the bend at the top has a different color shine. Maybe using a fuzzy skin setting for the outer surface could help with that. Or using a matte filament.
  • I highly recommend placing something non-flammable - like small stones or sand - in the bowl where the ash collects

Happy smoking!
