McMaster University Engineering Iron Ring Display Monument Replicas

This being the 100th 3D model I am uploading here I wanted it to be a little special. As my own personal way to commemorate 100 years of Canadian Iron Ring tradition, I created loose replicas of the McMaster Iron Ring monument that have been displayed over the years. 

Printing Info:

• I printed PLA two different colors and was easy to do so.

• The bottom part prints as is vertically, no supports, there are four variations: 

  • two shape styles (the original base shape and updated one)

  • two with/without the fireball (as this is specific to McMaster University Engineering)

• The Iron Ring replica top (to which I am very grateful to Adam for making model) prints flat where a small amount of supports are needed for the connections.

  • Post-processing this is straight forward as just a little sanding should only be needed if at all.

• The top and bottom press fit together.

The Iron Ring monument outside McMaster University's John Hodgins Engineering Building was first installed in 2001 as a student-led initiative, originally conceived as a prank involving a pickup truck and a giant ring. It quickly became a beloved symbol of engineering pride and ethics, echoing the values of the Iron Ring ceremony. In 2017, the monument was refurbished and repositioned to better reflect its significance and improve visibility for students and visitors. Since then, it has served as a gathering point for engineering events and a visual reminder of the profession’s responsibilities.
