This is a weird one for me. I'm actually kind of happy with the design, but not with the overall outcome. Tl;DR, as cool as this thing is, it sags even without the weight of cables pulling it down. After taking the photos, I switched back to using a simple 1U metal shelf.

So why am I sharing a project I don't endorse? Mostly because I learned a LOT while making it (like, embossing is one of my new favorite CAD tools). Maybe someone will find my learnings informative and build upon them. I've attached the original Fusion 360 file along with step files for each design iterations including a topless version I never completed.

Some notes if you choose to print this:

  • This requires 4x M4x60 screws along with 4x flanged M4 nuts (sometimes called a “whiz nuts”).
  • The side for the nut is embossed with a little hexagon between holes

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

This upload includes a few mixes made through a few iterations.

  1. On the first attempt, I tried to stay as true to the original as possible, but I wanted to increase the contact area between the 2 sides, and give myself more clearance for the m4 screw and a flanged nut. (Hex Orientation 1 in the files)
  2. After struggling with overhangs, I then rotated the hexagons 90 degrees (hex orientation 2)

I also changed how the PCs are locked into the print with a simple little locking plate.
