I have a Porter Cable router on my diy CNC router build. I mounted the router jacket to my Z axis and use the quick release to pull the router for bit changes. It can be a pain to align the xy coordinates after clamping material. This jig slips into the router jacket and allows me to see the laser lines while doing material alignment . Then I pop out the jig and insert the router with the bit centered where the laser lines cross..
This is a 5mW laser X from ebay. I connected the laser directly to a battery and switch.
I have a usb endoscope in a 12mm case that I can use for alignment and measurement. The is currently mounted off to the side of the router, but I may print another jig for that and avoid the offset.
OpenScad included in case your router, laser, or camera diameter is different.
