I made a replacement extruder cover with an open top hole for the heat break cooling fan.

The intent was to minimise the whistling jet engine sound from the air current produced by the small 25mm fan.

This didn't really work as intended, but it can serve as a replacement cover in case someone breaks theirs.

It uses the stock 5015 fan with the original duct and small lower hex screw. You will need to enlarge the top left screw hole in the duct to 3mm to fit the new M3 bolt!

There are 2 versions, one is made for brass heat inserts, the other doesn't require the heat inserts, because the m3 bolt just grips the plastic. Keep in mind that with this non heat insert version you can not really overtighten the screws!!

The .Step file is included, so you can make your own modifications.

Hardware need:

  • 2x brass insert M3 x 4.5 x 4.5
  • 1x M3 x 16mm button head
  • 1x M3 x 20mm non countersunk flathead or a button head filed flat (it can hit a bolt on the extruder)
  • 4x neodymium magnet 5mm x 3mm thick. If you use 4mm thick magnets, you can use a button head screw without having to file it flat!
