customizable exhaust hose to sliding window adapter

Inspiration

I created this for use with my printer exhaust duct model but also used it for a clothes dryer with great success. Here were some of my goals for this project

• reconfigurable for different hose sizes
• reconfigurable for different sliding window sizes
• grille to keep out birds and bats
• slider valve to enable/disable airflow
• minimal supports
• no extra hardware needed (like glue) to join pieces together

Printing

I was able to print all parts without supports except the first (hose/neck segment). The joints benefited from denser infill but it wasn't required. See the attached 3mf file to see how I configured each segment in prusa slicer.

I hear PLA is sensitive to heat and UV rays. A window adapter is likely to get a lot of those, so I used PETG which is slightly better.

Assembly

Here's what each part is for

• segment_neck - tape or zip-tie your hose onto the circular end.
• segment_slider - attaches to segment_neck. Has a cavity for a slider to enable/disable airflow.
• slider - insert into the cavity from the first two parts. Enable or disable airflow by sliding it left or right.
• extender - blank piece to make the assembly longer
• lasta/lastb - The normal joints connect each semgnet from the sides which is difficult for the last piece before the end of the window frame. If this part is used as the last piece it makes it easier to slide in from the top.

Customizing

You'll need autodesk fusion to customize the model. Or you can send me a message with your desired hose diameter and i'll get to it as soon as I can (might be a few days though).

Change the model's parameters in autodesk fusion by clicking modify -→ change parameters

Several parameters are available, but you'll most likely want to change one of the following

• hose_diameter - set this to the inner diameter of your hose. The part will resize the outer circle diameter so that your hose smoothly slides onto it.
• last_segment_length - how long should the last segment be? This will let you perfectly fit your sliding window length.
• segment_thickness - how thick do you want the walls?
