These combs are designed to assist in aligning, routing and retaining balance wires in a lithium battery pack. They're designed to fit within the 85mm long profile of an 18650 and are able to handle 22 balance wires.

Note: You will need both the cap and base for a complete comb.

Integration Into Your Battery Back

Most BMS'es use the same size of balance wire so compatibility should be fairly broad. Please note however, that the tolerances on the sheething size aren't the tightest and you may have issues with certain wires being tighter / looser than others. There is an overhang at the top of each tooth in the comb, if you're stuggling to push the wire in then dont be afraid to use something to help press it in.

I personally use double sided tape to secure these in place on the side of a cell. I build my pack exclusively using offset holders. I utilise the high and low sections on the outsides of the pack placing the combs on the outer sections and using the low sections to route and provide more of a crush zone for the balance wires.

Use Cases

These are an excellent tool to increase the safety and durability of a pack. Balance wires are fragile and if the battery is impacted it can be quite easy for these wires to pinch and cause a short inside the casing of the battery. These cable combs aim to fix this by preventing the balance wires from crossing over each other therefore eliminating risk of pinching. They also naturally provide spacing between the outer casing of the pack and the balance wires which further reduced any risk of damage. 

I now use these on all of the batteries I build as not only do they increase safety but they also make assembly infinitely easier by managing the nest of wires that sprouts from a BMS.
