Like many others i've had trouble with 2.5" hdd not lasting terribly long, and now starting to get harder to find. Decided to look at using a 3.5" drive instead and happily discovered many others had done it already. I liked the idea of the enclosure that @cdzombak designed https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5090494 but seeing as the cloudkey runs pretty hot I wanted it on the top to maximize heat dissipation. I also made the enclosure long enough to protect the sata connection on the back of the hdd, added a support underneath the sata connector with 2.75mm holes to accept 3mm screws that will prevent the sata connector from coming detached from the drive.

The adapter for the 2.5" drive sled was remodeled to be a little larger for a snug fit and moved the sata connector 2mm forward because the one I took the design from didn't work for me because the connector wasn't pushed forward enough.

Including the step files in case you want to make any changes. If heat is still higher than I like I might add a mount for a case fan seeing as we have 12v and 5v power available now off of the 3.5" hdd power supply.

You can order whatever parts will suit but ultimately what you need is: Power supply, I used the supply and molex to sata adapter from this kit https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07PP1ZPF1?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title Sata extension cable 20" - https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0793QLP36?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

On the end of the sata extension that connects to the CloudKey, cut off the 4 power cable wires so that only the sata data cable remains. Cut the wires on the molex to sata adapter, throw the cut off sata power connector away. Splice the wires on the molex adapter to the 4 power wirest you cutt off of the sata extension cable on the hdd end. This way you have the sata connector running between cloudkey and 3.5" hdd, and the power brick connected to the 3.5" hdd. You can see roughly from the pictures.

It's pretty much the same as @cdzombak posted on his blog https://www.dzombak.com/blog/2021/11/expanding-the-ubiquiti-cloud-key-gen-2-with-a-3-5-hard-drive/ except that I did not splice directly off of the power supply. I wanted to use the molex to sata adapter so that if I ever need to replace the power supply it's a simple unplug the old and plug in the new procedure.
