Ikea Alex Drawer Front Honeycomb

In my Ikea LAGKAPTEN / ALEX desk drawer I have my work laptop and docking station with cable management coming out the back of the desk. I noticed when the drawer was closed the heat from the laptop and docking station would cause the laptop to thermal throttle.

I've designed this so I can close the drawer and still allow good airflow through the drawer. I have included mounts to be able to mount 2 x 50mm PC fans (I just used cheap USB ones from Temu) to actively exhaust the hot air out the drawer. I have designed the holes for the fan to use M3 heat inserts and M3 screws however if you don't have a soldering iron you can screw an M4 screw directly into the plastic (should you want the fans).

The wooden dowel and screw which comes with the Alex drawer attaches directly to the model (the screw just screws tightly into the plastic).

The second plate includes a triangular insert which further attaches the two sides together (already 3 joining pins) to make the model more rigid when in use however the triangular insert is not mandatory if you don't want to print it.

I have saved the model to print 2 walls which equals around 140g of filament but if you want to save filament you can change it to 1 wall which brings it to around 98g. Just make sure your plate is clean for good adhesion.

In the 3mf file I have included support blockers for the holes the pins go into as support there isn't required.
