Railcore II Bondtech BMG & Precision Piezo Orion Mount

Mount to allow use of the Precision Piezo Orion z-probe and BMG Extruder on the Railcore II with the ultralight Aluminum Y-Carriage. For a printed parts only version see my thing at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3240565

Mounting block is designed to slide into place amongst the cutouts of the y-carriage, reducing nearly any chance of flexing. Placement of the hot end is in-line with the stock layout, so any fan options will be compatible with a simple adapter. The BMG adapter mounts with the cable routing outrigger on the right (as facing the mount), otherwise the adapter will not seat completely. This is the reverse of 'normal' installation as seen in photos on 713maker.com. A separate thing for collected adapters available at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3646685.

There are two required components, theY-Carriage Mounting Block [ALU,n] which attaches to the aluminum y-carriage plate, and theOrion Bottom Mount which comes in E3D v6 and Slice Engineering variants. See above images for reference. Brass inserts are required to mount the Orion bottom block. There are two variants of the Orion Bottom Mount - a traditional, all printed part version and an alternate which uses o-rings to help fine tune preload and calibrations. More details on the o-ring option from the designer ajcraig at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3122283. Included are versions for the Slice Mosquito/Magnum and E3Dv6 with the threaded heatsink, while v6 Hotends with the standard groove mount heat sink use stock precision piezo mount.

Update May 20, 2019 v1.3

  • Added variant to use McMaster-Carr supplied tapered brass inserts
  • Organizational cleanup of files/filenaming

Printing Suggestions

*Material: Mounting Block should be as stiff and reliable as possible, I suggest Atomic Filament's Carbon Fiber PETG. Orion Bottom Mount should have a slight bit of flex if possible, I suggest a simple PETG. *Slicing: Mounting Block should have at least 3+ perimeters, heavy infill (75%). Orion Bottom Mount needs 2-3 perimeters, 20+% infill - the hollow interior spaces make infill less important but be certain you have enough top/bottom layers for a smooth surface. *Supports: Mounting Block requires minimal support under the main body, Orion Bottom Mount does not use any supports
