🫙 Jar with Windowed Lid - Print & Assembly Notes

Design Overview

  • Capacity: ~0.5 L (20 fl.oz.)
  • Window: Clear round plastic insert, 76 mm Ø × 1.8 mm thick
  • Lid: Threaded, recessed for window insert
  • Body: Threaded to match, filleted bottom for strength and print stability
  • Indicator Block: Prints alongside to show when window placement is needed

Printing Recommendations

  • Layer height: 0.20 mm
  • Supports:
    • Jar body: use minimal supports for the filleted bottom only
    • Lid: avoid supports (window recess must remain clear)
  • Support management: If slicing all parts at once, use support blockers or paint-on supports to confine support to the jar bottom only

Indicator Block

  • Functions as a visual cue: each notch/layer corresponds to a point in the lid’s build
  • Especially useful if:
    • Printer firmware doesn’t support “Pause at height”
    • Maker prefers not to modify g-code
  • Method: watch the block - when it changes at the marked step, slip in the window

Assembly Options

  1. Conventional pause
    • Pause when the lid reaches indicator height
    • Insert clear plastic disc into recess
    • Resume print to close over window
  2. Live insertion (advanced)
    • Print lid, body, and indicator block in one pass
    • While printer continues working on jar body, quickly and carefully place the window in the lid recess
    • Requires steady hands but avoids pausing g-code

Sealing

  • Optional: run a thin bead of superglue around the seam after printing to improve dust/moisture resistance
