Drill template and case insert for The Tail Company MiTail. Allows the hardware serial port to be accessed from outside the case. Note: This is an advanced modification, and can permanently damage the controller if applied incorrectly. This is not intended to be a complete guide.
This is designed for a 2.54mm 1x6 connector to mate with a Right Angle Single Row 2.54mm Male Header on the MiTail controller board.
Don't drill the case with the control board inserted in the case! USE CARE WHEN INSERTING AND REMOVING THE CONTROL BOARD FROM THE CASE TO AVOID DAMAGING BOARD COMPONENTS, ESPECALLY THE POWER SWITCH AND USB PORT!
The drill template is intended to be used with a ¼" drill bit. Because the case surface being drilled into is sloped, it's recommended that a drill press be used. However, the template can be used with any size drill and used to guide the cutting of the opening. The opening is not precise, and there's ample adjustability in the insert to cover any mistakes in cutting.
A small amount of hot glue (don't overdo it, or you'll have difficulty getting it off later) can be used to affix the drill template to the case temporarily.
Clean up the opening with a file or knife, and test-fit the insert, making sure that it can line up with the control board header.
Using the connector as a guide to ensure perfect alignment, glue the insert into place.
