Doug was a beloved family member who loved everyone, and everyone loved him. Before his sudden passing in August of 2022, he and our daughter were absolutely inseparable.
I just learned about https://3dprintopia.com/ a few days ago. I've only been 3D printing for a few years now and decided I'd take the family up to check it out. When looking into what there is to do, I discovered MakerChips and thought it would be a fun thing for my daughter to do - help me design a chip to give out and collect them at the event. I don't have a website. I don't sell things. I'm not an influencer - just a nerdy dad who makes toys and dumb things for my other hobbies - so I don't have a fancy logo.
And so, Doug the MakerChip was born.
The chip itself was modeled in Blender. The line art was drawn in Inkscape and the SVG was import and extruded in Blender to create a 3D mesh. I recently switched from a Bambu A1 with AMS to a Prusa Core One in response to Bambu's … choices … so I needed to model the chip in such a way that I could add color via filament swaps at specific layer heights as I don't have an MMU yet (come on INDX…)
I've included the full version that we will be taking to 3DPrintopia as well as a version without the ‘Doug’ text and a completely blank version in case you'd like to make your own single-extruder MakerChip. I have also included the .blend file to make it easier to remix.
