wanted a simple 4" vent for my printers [cardboard] enclosure, its nice to have especially in the winter.
but in the summer I need to vent the hot air or bad things happen.
I found a few vents on here, I didn't really like them. they Didn't do what I needed and they didn't have any class…
so I've made my own.
bill of materials [BOM]:
5x m3 threaded inserts (5.7mm deep)
4x m3x16 socket head cap screws
1x m3x8 socket head cap screw
1x m3 washer (9mm OD)
Tools:
Allen wrench
drill/hole saw/drill bit
exact-o knife
scissors
soldering iron
rubber mallet
hot glue?
Instructions:
print one of each part
melt in your threaded inserts.
assemble and glue the key to the wing. (mine fit tight, I didn't end up gluing, I did use a rubber mallet thou.)
mark out and drill holes so you can bolt the vent to your enclosure.
bonus: add filter screen to keep dust down.
– I happened to have one of those sheets they leave on your keyboard when you buy a new laptop. works really well for filter material :)
*note* I did add a circular indent on the backer in case you'd like to hot glue it to your enclosure, i theorize this might make it easier to install or change the filter, as you don't need to hold it up while your screwing it on.
I think it turned out really nice.
I used Polymaker PLA Pro - Metallic Gold - 1.75mm | PolyLite™ prints well.
Enjoy!
