The MI50 is a 16GB or 32GB server accelerator card without built in fans. It has a single mini-displayport and can be (relatively) easily flashed to Radeon Pro VII firmware and used in a desktop PC for light gaming or local LLMs. Most models to add fans extend the length of the card and use smaller 40mm or single fans at the back of the existing shroud, which makes it difficult to fit the card in a desktop PC case.
This model replaces the existing shroud and fits 3 slim (15mm height) 90mm fans that must be connected to a motherboard fan header or a fan controller. There is no fan connector on the card, so the speeds must be managed in either the bios or 3rd party software.
In the end the card height with the shroud is 55mm, making it around a 2.75 “slot” height.
I printed the shroud in Creality carbon fiber pla: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7BX8TTRhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C7BX8TTR
With the top (where the fans mount) facing the build plate at a layer height of 0.4mm, no supports, extruder temp: 190c, build plate temp: 72c.
The shroud is secured to the card using 4 of the 6 mounting holes from the original shroud, but the original screws are too short, and require longer screws. I used 4x M2x5mm screws similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/PartEGG-Phillips-Flat-Head-Replacement-Cooling/dp/B0D5GPVKZT
Any 80mm slim (15mm height) fans should work, but these are the exact fans I used (and the only fans I tested): https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Slim-PWM-PST-Connection/dp/B09VGX23DS
(optional) The fans above have connectors for daisy chaining, but I found them to be clunky to arrange inside the shroud itself so I clipped off the input connector on each fan and I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PXLHNZ6https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PXLHNZ6 outside of the shroud to combine the three fans. Looking back, I could have left the input on the fans and combined them all outside the shroud, but I still think the way I did it looks cleaner, but, again, it's entirely optional.
To keep all info in the same place, I have the 16GB version of the card and this is the bios that I flashed to enable the mini-displayport out: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/229229/amd-radeonprovii-16384-200818
Flashing the card with the vbios requires amdvbflash : https://www.techpowerup.com/download/ati-atiflash/ , for which I used Ubuntu 22.04 after attempts to flash with the windows versions failed.
