Designed for all desktop 3D printers, the WT-01 easily converts your FDM machine into a metal cutting powerhouse!
Electrical discharge machining, or EDM, vaporizes any conductive material through the use of high-power electrical pulses. You can think of these as microscopic lightning bolts blasting craters out of the target material!
EDM can machine any conductive material. Be it aluminum, titanium, or even hardened steel, your WT-01 will be able to cut it. All you need is an EDM power supply and wire! These can be self-sourced or purchased at rackrobo.io.
The WT-01 has been released for free to the public domain.
To get started, download the pre-oriented .zip files from the “files” section. A pre-sliced Bambu Lab multicolor project has been provided.
The example design provided for the WT-01 is made to fit a stock Ender 3 V1 3D printer. Included in with the files is a master assembly and featureless tool mount. Modify the featureless tool mount to fit your own 3D printer.
Detailed assembly instructions can be found on rackrobo.io and on the Github page. Documentation is a living document. Consistent updates expected.
Assembly and use videos will be posted in the future on the Rack Robotics Youtube channel.
WEDM benefits greatly from closed loop speed control based off of the analog and digital outputs of the Powercore V3 EDM spark generator. The current preferred method of achieving closed loop control is by using LinuxCNC and pairing the adaptive feedrate to the Powercore's current output.
