I love the original make but ran into a few issues while printing it that frankly baffled me. First is the hollow pieces. After following the provided instructions with no infill for a test piece I decided to try printing with infill. Imagine my surprise when the pieces were still hollow. It turned out that the STLs were modeled hollow so they can't be filled. In order to support both options I've un-hollowed the pieces by removing the inner faces in Blender, allowing for infill if you want in to increase the strength of the fragile puzzle pieces. You're still free to set infill to 0% to get the original intended print with these STLs.

When I printed the first two pieces of the border I was excited to start putting things together but quickly realized that the way that the borders are aligned means you have to put the puzzles pieces into the border with the bottom of the puzzle pieces facing up. As generally the top of a print is more aesthetically pleasing to me this was unacceptable so I've also mirrored the border pieces.

The STLs are included here if you want to modify or import them yourself. The Pin STL is unchanged from the original. These were all exported from the original 3mf files as STL files were not originally included for all of the models. The 3mf files are from my prints on the Core One with my suggestions for settings.

As the pieces have very little on their bottom layer to adhere to the print bed I added a 1mm brim, which kept them stable just fine for me on the smooth print sheet. I don't recommend printing them on a textured print sheet, at least not with PLA. The pins I placed 3.5mm apart with a 3mm brim as they lost adhesion on my textured print plate near the top layer without one. For the borders I used a concentric top and bottom fill as with the fractal pattern you get a really cool river delta kind of effect.

See Svw's original version for more discussion of the puzzle, QR code hints, and the original story of how this was made.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Puzzle pieces that have been un-hollowed to allow infill and mirrored borders so that the top of the puzzle pieces is what you see when you put the puzzle together.
