Stuff from Aliexpress
People wanted to know what other components I odered, so here goes. These links might get outdated, because Aliexpress.
* Digispark: * Rotary encoder: * Knob: * Alternative (cheaper) knob: (or just 3D print one)It also needs a micro USB Cable, I used an old phone charging cable I had laying around.
Connections
For soldering the connections, use some really flexible wire. I used the wires from an old ethernet cable. If your wires are too stiff, you might rip the copper traces off the board when you bend the wires into place (i learned the hard way).
The rotary encoder has 5 pins, 2 on one side (for the push button functionality, I used that for mute) and 3 on the other side (for the rotary functionality). The broad pins on either side are not used.
The 3 pins are connected as follows:
(if the volumes goes the wrong way, switch the connections of the outer pins)
The 2 pins are connected as follows:
Physics
The housing has some room left, so you can add some extra weight to it. I used some thick steel wire and hot glue.
You can also use wax instead of glue, and ball bearings or lead shot instead of steel wire.
Stick some rubber feet to the base and with the added weight it won't slide around.
Programming
You've got to program the digispark. Follow the instructions in the instructable to do that, I cannot help with that.
