Long ago in Crete, King Minos commanded the master builder Daedalus to create a maze so vast and winding that none who entered could ever escape. Deep within this Labyrinth lived the Minotaur, a fearsome creature with the body of a man and the head of a bull.
Every nine years, Athens was forced to send youths as a sacrifice to the monster. But one day, the hero Theseus entered the maze with a daring plan. With the help of Princess Ariadne, who gave him a simple ball of thread, he traced his way through the twisting corridors. After a fierce battle, he struck down the Minotaur and followed the thread back to freedom.
Thus, the Labyrinth became not just a prison, but a symbol of courage, wit, and the triumph of light over darkness.
This coaster set was created based on the legend of the Labyrinth of Knossos and its mythical Minotaur. The coaster holder is the ball of yarn that Theseus used to ensure his escape from the Labyrinth and the design for the coaster is based on the traditional image of the maze which is brilliantly portrayed by Athanase Kircher in his 1675 print.
