I needed to print something with TPU, but the QIDI Q1 Pro can only "eat" it directly into the extruder (it usually jams in the PTFE tube). I checked out several spool holder designs, but most of them were either too complicated or, from my engineering point of view, a bit unfinished. So instead of nitpicking the work of other makers, I quickly designed my own simple and reliable version.
My model has a few advantages:
For assembly, you’ll need two standard 608ZZ bearings (though you can skip them – the spool will just slide on the holder). If you don’t have them, you can even print bearings yourself, for example from here: 608ZZ Bearing.
You’ll also need an M6 bolt, 120mm long, and a nut. These can also be 3D printed – just make sure to use the T-bolt form factor for the bolt so it can handle the tightening load.
Since I (probably like most users of this printer) have a Lid Riser installed, I designed this spool holder specifically for it. But if you use a different setup, you can easily adjust the design for your needs – I’ve included the Fusion 360 file.
This model has been tested in action and showed no issues. Hopefully, my experience will be useful to someone else.
