This invention offers an innovative and discreet storage solution for mountain bikers, utilizing the hollow space within a bicycle's fork steerer tube to keep essential items hidden and protected. It is compatible with any fork steerer tube that has an inner dimension of 20mm up to 42mm.

This assembly was originally created in 2021 and has since been a reliable companion for storing my CO2 canister and tubeless plug kit. Inspired by this competition, I've refined the original, field-tested design by simplifying the assembly and ensuring its compatibility with a wide range of off-the-shelf front suspension forks. This versatile design can also accommodate other small tools.

A new, refined canister adapter is now available, compatible with inner diameters of 25mm or greater.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE: To prevent the CO2 canister from rupturing, please ensure the nut is securely placed within the knob component. The bolt must be positioned to face away from the CO2 cartridge.

Disclaimer of Liability: By downloading, printing, or using this design, you agree to assume full responsibility for any and all risks associated with its use. The creator is not liable for any damages, injuries, or losses that may result from the use, misuse, or installation of this part. This design is provided for personal use and is not intended for commercial applications or for use in any safety-critical systems.

To ensure a proper fit, you have two options: you can either measure the inner dimension of your steerer tube and print the corresponding file, or you can 3D print the "Steerer Tube ID Identifier" in vase mode for an easy way to check compatibility before printing the final part.

As demonstrated by the example, the 'Steerer ID Identifier' tool confirms that a 33mm inner diameter is compatible. You can now proceed with the 3D printing of the corresponding parts.

The following machine screw options are compatible with this design:

Metric: M5 x 30mm bolt and M5 nut

Imperial: #10-32 x 1.125" bolt and #10-32 nut

No support material is required for printing any of the components. Upon assembly, please create an opening through the 0.2mm-thick bridge to accommodate the screw.

ASA/ABS/PETG: 0.2 mm layer height, 4 perimeters, rectilinear infill.

TPU: 0.2 mm layer height, 2 perimeters, gyroid infill.

Below is the original version from 2021, which has been thoroughly field-tested. This design has a proven record of durability on my Giant Trance 2016, a bike converted for trail-enduro use with a Fox 36 Performance Elite (e-bike spec) front fork.

Design Notes:

  • Ribs have been incorporated into both the top and bottom parts of the assembly. This feature prevents the top component from slipping during tightening, which enhances the gripping capabilities of the TPU wedge.
  • A groove has been integrated into the bottom part to provide leverage for removal, addressing the challenge of extracting the assembly should it become lodged.
  • Due to a lack of a universal industry standard for fork steerer tubes, a single "one-size-fits-all" solution is not feasible. While the outer dimensions of steerer tubes are fixed, the inner diameter varies based on material thickness. For this reason, 22 different options have been uploaded to ensure compatibility.
  • The CO2 cartridge must be securely mounted to the tool. A loose canister can cause the assembly to dislodge when riding over bumpy terrain, a finding confirmed during initial field testing.
