Most of us have been there: the cable is still good, but the reel is broken. Maybe the handle snapped, the body cracked, or the winding system just gave up. You’re left with a long cable that works perfectly fine, but without a practical way to store or use it. Normally, that means buying a brand-new reel and throwing the old one away.

This is exactly where our customizable cable reel changes the game. Instead of wasting a good cable, you can give it a second life. Take the wire from your broken reel, place it into this system, and build a reel that is stronger, smarter, and entirely your own.

What makes it special is that it isn’t limited like the reels you find in stores. You decide how it’s built. If you already have plugs and sockets you want to reuse, just install them. If you prefer new ones, you can choose exactly the type you like — EU, UK, or any other standard. You can even fit more than one outlet if that suits your work. And because we include a design file, you can create your own cutouts for additional sockets, switches, or connectors, making this reel adaptable for almost any setup.

It doesn’t just stop at function. This is the first reel you can actually print in the style of the big brands. Want the bold yellow of DeWalt? The tough red of Milwaukee? The blue of Bosch, the green of Festool, or the teal of Makita? You can. Your reel can look like it belongs right next to your other tools, while still being something uniquely yours.

The design itself is modern and practical. Two rollers add just the right amount of tension on the cable, so it winds more evenly without tangling. Protective edge walls on both sides ensure the cable never slips out, no matter how fast you reel it in. The result is a smooth, tidy, and secure cable storage solution every time.

• It is required to get 8x “608” bearing (22mm outer ⌀, 8mm inner ⌀, 7m thickness) these are used in skateboards and rollerblades f.e.
• Sockets, fixed cable, plugs, connectors, switches depends on how you want to have your reel customized. 

The assembly is divided into clear steps. Each step has its own folder with the parts you need to print. Simply print the parts from that folder, making sure to produce the correct quantities as noted in the file description. Then, follow along with the assembly video — and you’ll have everything put together in no time.

TIPS: 

Some parts like wheel or handle have some infill patterns which are not designed in the CAD but achievable with particular slicer settings.  

Some parts consists of multiple objects. For example this handle consists of two parts from which one has top and bottom shell layers set to 0 so the infill is fully visible. The second part of this handle has shell layers as normal so it remains strong.
