VW T4 Ashtray Cupholder Single/Dual

I needed a cupholder in my new (old, used…) Wingamm Ibis 500 based on a VW T4 and couldn't find one I really liked and so I made an own one. My T4 is 1998 but should fit on other construction years as well.

It replaces the original front panel of the ashtray and is available for a single or dual cup/bottle. The inner diameter of the holders is 85mm, so it fits everything up to a 1.25l bottle. With the dual variant you can still access the right ventilation knob and sill open the glove box. The cupholders are angled around 8° to make them almost straight since the dashboard is tilted.

I printed this in PETG to cope with higher summer temperature in the cab. I would recommend to definitely not print with PLA! The PETG used was Elegoo Rapid PETG and Azurefilm PETG with standard Generic PETG settings but reduced outside wall speed to 50mm/sec to avoid any speed artifact in outside appearance and used gyroid infill.

It has to be printed upside down, the top of the model goes flat to the print bed, and prints nicely even without supports. Without supports requires 65mm of bridging for the bottom of the holders, which worked fine for me with the above filaments of a Prusa Core One or Bambu P1S. That distance causes a bit rough inside bottom surface of the cupholders, but since that's invisible, I didn't case. You can enable supports if you prefer or have issues with bridging over that distance.

Update 2025-09-04: I added a new variant of the dual cup holder (vw_t4_cupholder_dual_mk3.stl) where the bottom of the opening between the two cups is closed hence adds a smaller compartment for things like pens or so.
