GridLink Play,™ is the easiest to use series in the world of GridLink, and is a great tactile art toy for learning and color exploration. With 40 x 4mm base tiles with visible jigsaw connectors and rounded edges and corners, tolerance is relatively loose. These are just structural enough to generally hold together when a panel is picked up. Patterns can be made, remade and torn apart to be reimagined into something else.
There are two GridLink series dedicated specifically to art and color… This, which uses a simple jigsaw connection that is visible in the finished result. And GridLink Art™, which is slightly more challenging to work with, but that uses hidden connections for pure square tile patterns in the visible result.
CHOKING HAZARD WARNING:
If poorly printed, tabs could break off of these resulting in small parts that a very young child could choke on. Test the integrity of your prints before allowing children to play with them and always supervise appropriately.
KEEPING IT MANAGEABLE AND FUN:
Like Lincoln Logs, more is merrier. But you don't need most of these parts! For some people, the 1x1 “Core Part” is all they want. Printing 10 of those in three different colors opens up much of what one can do with these.
For a basic creative set, print the “Starter Set” with the quantities listed per part, in at least two colors. For a really deluxe set, print it in five or more of your favorite colors. Then customize by adding parts from further down the lists.
One tip for getting a really full set, is just add a few 1x1 through 2x2 sized parts to the extra build space of your other prints, especially as you change to new colors for other projects.
PRINT QUALITY / COST:
Start by printing a quick 1x1 test with 2 bottom layers, 2 top layers and 2 wall loops. Rectilinear infill as low as 10% can work well for these. If your top layer is not great, increase to 3 top layers. If they feel too squishy, increase to 15% infill and 3 wall loops. The wall loops are responsible for most of the strength and connection holding ability with these.
These are not meant to hold together tightly. But if they aren't tight enough, a quick fix that often works is to increase flow rate by 3 to 5%.
