Polynesian Themed Tiki Lantern

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort inspired lantern. If you love the resort, you know you'll need to print this! I got the idea from the lanterns in the display window at the Poly basement gift shop.

Slicer Settings I printed the base and top with Duramic Matte Wood. Your default slicer settings should work fine. No supports needed. The base has a hole in the bottom to reduce print time and save filament. If you use a smaller light that falls through the hole, cut a cardboard circle to sit in the bottom of the base.

The top prints just like the base, flat side on the build plate. After printing, I cut a circle of aluminum foil and used spray adhesive to glue the foil inside the top to reflect some of the light back into the lantern. I compared the lantern with and without the foil. There's a slight improvement near the top of the lantern with the foil, so it's definitely optional.

The white lithophane cylinder needs special attention. The American Filament website has a page with recommended slicer settings. https://americanfilament.us/pages/beginners-guide-to-lithophanes

I used the recommended settings with Prusa and the cylinder printed beautifully. I used a large brim for adhesion and turned off the fan for the first 30 layers. I printed with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.12 layer height. Arachne for walls (I think that's the default in Prusa). Use a minimum of 7 walls and 10-15% infill.

The cylinder was created using https://lithophanemaker.com and an image file I designed for the project.

Puck Lights The lantern is designed to use a cheap remote controlled puck light from Amazon. A box of 6 pucks came with 2 remotes for under $20USD. The lights can be set for a specific color (12 colors + white). The light orange color looks like a candle. The lights have a color-changing mode that will smoothly transition through the 12 colors (see the attached video). The lights have a 30 and 60 minute auto shutoff timer.
