Soviet-Style Clock (based on USSR-era clock)

Description:

This project is a kind of reverse engineering. I simply wanted to make use of the clock mechanism (Bambu Lab 011 Clock Kit) I received with my 3D printer. I noticed the mechanism’s size was similar to an old USSR clock I own… and that’s how it all started.

I love the distinctive design of Soviet-era, so I tried to recreate that style. Of course, there are some visible differences caused by the use of a different mechanism (e.g., the original had an alarm function) and the natural limitations of 3D printing.

No screws or hardware are required for assembly — just the Bambu Lab 011 kit (or other in similar size mechanism) and the printed parts.

Materials:

• Supports required only for one part (the black front) — all others are support-free
• Recommended materials: PETG (for durability) or PLA
• Color suggestions (based on original USSR clock):
  • Brown
  • White
  • Black
  • Red (optional – for second hand)
• AMS not required — you can change colors by manually pausing the print
• All parts are designed for friction-fit — no glue or screws necessary

Notes & Features:

• The second hand is the trickiest part to print. The internal gap might be too fine, depending on your printer. I recommend:
  1. Drilling the central gap using a 3–4 mm bit
  2. Or trimming the second hand from the kit to length
• Initially, I wanted to include a transparent faceplate, but the results with transparent PLA were… disappointing. Maybe someone else has a good solution? In any case, the clock still looks great without it!
• Customizable clock face – You can add your own text or symbols on the dial for personalization.

Final Thoughts:

This project combines vintage charm with modern practicality. It’s a fun, satisfying print — especially if you enjoy nostalgic, retro design. Whether you display it, it brings a unique atmosphere. I hope you enjoy printing and customizing it as much as I enjoyed designing it!
