Mount your Philips Hue Motion Sensor on the ceiling without having to drill. Useful if you don't like drilling, or if you rent the place.

The magnetic mount included with the sensor is in a rubber enclosure, and it will not stick to double tape (Tesa/3M/etc.). That is the reason for creating this model.

 

ℹ Edit: Apparently the manufacturer has been shipping the same product with two magnet sizes. I realized this when I tried to use this model with an older Hue Motion Sensor in my house. Older batches seemed to have a bigger magnet (10 mm cylinder height including rubber cover). If this is the case, please see notes below under each variant.

You need a M3x10 bolt and nut pair to fit the magnetic mount. You fit the magnetic mount as-is. Use double tape to mount it on the ceiling.

Remove the magnet from its sheath. Insert it to the printed cup, close with the printed lid, and glue the two pieces together. (don't glue the magnet!)

Use double tape to mount it on the ceiling.

You don't have to remove the rubber enclosure, which cannot be put back in place without tools.The clearance between the ceiling and the sensor remains low.
  • High clearance.
  • More print time.
  • You need a M3x10 bolt and a nut.
  • You modify the product.
  • The print is fragile.
  • To recover the magnet later on, you have to break the model apart.

  • Organic/tree supports.
  • Low infill (5% - 10% cubic)
  • No supports.
  • Infill is irrelevant.
  • Be careful with the bed temperature - even a small amount of warping can make it unusable.

If the magnet is bigger, use a M3x16 bolt.

Material:

  • PLA is fine, but use PETG for durability, especially if summer temperatures reach >40 °C where you live. Note that hot air rises and (dormer) ceilings may get warmer than average room temperature.
