This design allows anybody to feed bees and or attract them to their gardens for pollination. You can use a 2 gallon or 5 gallon bucket from the hardware store. This design almost eliminates drowning bees and fighting bees due to its floating nature. Roughen up the inside surface of the buckets (with sandpaper) to give bees the ability to climb out if they need to. Use 1 to 2 parts water to 1 part sugar (DO NOT! use artificial sweeteners) in your feed, also you can purchase bee feed by the gallon at some of the farm stores. If you worry about the mixture getting moldy, you can put a drop or two of chlorine bleach into it. (be sure to mix well). To put a scent on the feed mixture, put a couple drops of lemon grass or rosemary oil in the mixture, bees are attracted to these scents. This also promotes remote feeding from the hive (just like gathering from the plants), so the bees only take what they want and don't overload their hives which can cause mold problems. If the bees have stopped coming to your feeder, either the feed might need to be changed or they have discovered a more preferred source from the wild plants. Place the feeder where you won't mind a bunch of bees flying around. The 2 gallon (7.57 liter) one is 196mm in diameter and the 5 gallon (18.93 liter) one is 250mm in diameter.
