Use existing fenceposts as support (such as for a shade structure or roof) by extending them upwards.
The next size down fencepost serves as an insert connecting the existing fencepost to the extension fencepost. For example, we have 40" long 2-3/8" od support / corner fenceposts. The insert is a 1-7/8" od structural-steel tube. Put a cap on each end of the insert with the sleeve in the middle and the set the extension piece on top.
This is for light-duty stuff like shade cloth or structure over a patio or garden.
Fenceposts can get hot in the sun! It is a good idea to use a higher-temperature filament like ASA.
