Got a first generation Raspberry Pi Model B and rack mount it? Here you go!

  • This model is for left rack mounting. You can't mirror it in your slicer because the mounting holes are not symmetrical.
  • Printing is straight forward- the only area where supports are needed are the holes for the rack mount bolts.
  • Use M3 bolts to screw the Raspberry Pi to the mount. Any short length should be fine. The bolts may need some oomph to bite into the material.
  • I would recommend printing in PETG, but PLA should be fine.

Development

I'm a terrible 3D modeler, but I can slice things up easily enough in TinkerCAD. This one took some work!

The part where I needed to get the holes lined up juuuust right was the hard part. In the end, I went through 15 iterations to get those lined up correctly.

Iteration can take a long while, but there are many times when your slicer's features can be in your favor. To save on used filament, I used the cut tool in my slicer to print a 1mm sliver of the mount to test. On my Mk4S, the iterative print would only take about 30 min before finishing, so that was a huge time saver.

In the end, I got a product that works perfectly, and my first generation Raspberry Pi is mounted underneath a Raspberry Pi 4.

I think it came out well. :)

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Moved screw positioning and card slot recesses around to make the model compatible with the first generation Raspberry Pi Model B, specifically the mounting holes and SD slot on the back.
