Ducting for "Activated Carbon Mod for Ikea UPPATVIND Filter"

I wanted to route my exhaust air from the printing enclosures (2) to my IKEA UPPÅTVIND, hence this remix.

Design

I originally intended to use magnets between the frame and the duct guide for easy cleaning. However the magnets (6mm diam, 2,5mm thick) where just too weak and it did just not seal good. So I ended up gluing everything together (except for the actual UPPÅTVIND).

You can use the frame and carbon cassette from the original model, just use glue (CA) to match the frame with the guide and skip the magnets (6x2.5mm) - however the original model does not have the M3 screw guides when gluing - the files here have them.

This print is intended to be used with rectangular PVC ventilation ducts (110x55mm), I used these.

Printing

All files are oriented in their intended printing position. You want to use support for the duct connector files, and you need to print 2x duct connectors!

Assembly

First assemble your 2 frames together (left+right), then use CA glue to:

  • Bond the duct connector to the guide, the connector slides in from inside the guide.

  • Bond the cover to the guide, creating a good seal.

  • Bond your guide to your frame, or use the magnets, but will most likely not create a good seal. Use M3 screws as guides when glueing (was intended for stabilizing with magnets…). I ended up glueing everything together as the magnets where not strong enough.

Results

I used this in combination with my previous filtration solution for IKEA Platsa - and I kept the carbon filters next to he fans, and used the IKEA UPPATVIND “as-is” with no extra carbon insert.

I used these adapters for 100mm to rectangular ducts press fitted into my printed funnel on the cabinet (100mm-tube-connection.stl). I'm sure these ducts are available elsewhere.
