I really like the Mechanism kickstand, but as its spring snap is upward, when handling a heavy device like the steam deck, any push on it will often make it snap out and fall.
To help with this issue, I made this small mod to be able to turn the snap mech upside down.
Please note that with this mod, the kickstand will now be subject to snap out of the grip when pushing from the other side instead, as it doesn't lock snap mechanism, it just reverses it.
The DIY Parts Kit available in the Mechanism shop (here) can also be used, it contains all the parts you need here.
Building steps:
remove the 3 screws from the kickstand and insert the M2.5 heat set insert in the 3d printed part, on the thinnest side.
place the 3d print over the upper part of kickstand foot, aligning the heat insert with the first hole of the metal rod. Attach them together with the extra M2.5 screw. Be careful not to screw it too tight or the heat insert might break free.
place the snap mechanism back, but turn it upside down, and attach it with the 3 M2.5 screws. Note that the extra screw attached in the previous step might prevent the snap mechanism from sitting flush on the metal rod, luckily that shouldn't cause issues.
check if everything is attached firmly and doesn't wiggle.
Note: this is a rough model I quickly designed, it might not be perfect and might have issues I didn't find yet. Feel free to leave any comment on it.
