My son is getting a new drawing tablet for Christmas and I wanted to give him something special and personalized to go along with it. He's a big fan of minifigs and Star Wars (of course) so I thought a pen holder would be cool.
Since minifigs already have the perfect hands for holding a pen I thought that would be cool but then they don't have knees which makes the classic pen holder pose a little hard. Then I looked at a Battle Droid, not only does it kind of resemble a knight but it's got knees!
There are various sources of STLs (RIP printabrick.org) luckily The Internet Archive helps with that. However they are not all manifold and printable, plus I needed to change the pose. So a little work in Netfabb, Blender and Tinkercad and here we are.
I've uploaded a regular minifig sized model, an approximately 350% version with slightly opened up hands for the actual holder, sized for a Huion/Wacom style pen, as well as the various pieces so that you can do with it what you like. The individual parts are not oriented for printing but how I had him posed.
Edit: Hands weren't quite as big as I wanted... Will hold a plain Bic pen but uploading a larger version now. Also watch out for the waist area when removing supports... cracked mine.
I'm going to try to print him as a single print today, obviously it will require a fair amount of supports as is.
