The fans of MSI RTX 5090 Ventus 3X are very loud and the GPU runs hot. I wanted to replace the fans with better Noctua fans. Here is the deshroud bracket I designed. It probably won't decrease temperatures much, but sound level and pitch is greatly improved.

I also added an optional air guide to direct the hot air away from the fan intakes. Depending on your PC case, this can improve thermals by several degrees.

The shroud increases the length of the card by 3.5 mm. Width remains the same, and the overall thickness is 75 mm.

Printing instructions

I printed these with a 0.2 layer height and a 0.4 nozzle. Use ASA or something else with good heat resistance. The bracket can be printed without supports. The cover and optional air guide need them. Use brim with air guide, otherwise it will most probably warp. The model requires a large printer with a big bed, it is not split to be printed in multiple parts.

Requirements

The fans I used are 2x Noctua NF-A12x25 and Noctua NF-A8 PWM. Additionally you will need:

  • 12 M3 threaded inserts
  • 8 M2 threaded inserts
  • 12 M3x8 or M3x10 screws
  • 1 mini 4-pin GPU to PWM adapter (or 3)
  • (3-way PWM splitter, if not using three adapters)

Assembly

  1. Remove the OEM shroud and fans. They come apart easily by unscrewing the 8 M2 screws from the back. Fan connectors are tight but easily accessible.
  2. Connect GPU adapter cable first and route it through the channel between radiators.
  3. Install the deshroud bracket using the original backplate and screws.
  4. Connect fans and screw them to the bracket. One of the 120mm fans needs to be installed so that the PWM connector is on the other side of the board and the cable is routed under the bracket.
  5. Push down the cover. Be careful with the clips and do not use excessive force. It is designed to be used with the Noctua anti-vibration pads. The cover is partly friction fit with these installed.
  6. Optional: Clip the air guide to the side after installing the GPU to motherboard.

Small update to the air guide. Changed the shape a little making it easier to print.
