This is a filament rack designed for 1kg filament spools, or spools of anything that are 200mm(~8in) in diameter. Two of these can hold a maximum of 160lbs of filament or over 70 spools of filament based on the extensive FEA stimulations projection. Two can support a rack of filament 17.5 feet apart without support, but don't do that. I recommend spacing them a maximum of 5 feet apart. Be careful, as PLA doesn't show many signs of stress before collapsing.
I recommend printing in basic PLA, but PETG or any fiber reenforced filaments will perform better, but PLA plus, MAX, or super PLA will not as they are engineered for impact strength, not tensile, which is what this relies on.
For the rack itself I used ¾ PVC pipes, which is 1.050 inches in diameter, however that may not be available or you have something else you would want to use so I added adapters to fit every size.
This is a pretty fast print depending on what printer you have. Unfortunately, due to the size of this it cannot be printed on an A1 mini, but it can be printed on a printer with a 195x195 builds space. Print it with a ridiculous amount of walls(I did 20), as it will distribute the load better.
If you want a different size rod or dowel I imported the model into tinkercad, just scale the cylinders to the wanted size based on X and Y plus 0.4 for tolerance for the 3d prints, then reposition the cylinders as their center has changed because they were scaled, then group all of it and export it. > https://www.tinkercad.com/things/4MNbs3fpWAC/edit?returnTo=%2Fdashboard&sharecode=YE8NWri5ZbLPbtu-zbHT4JiUbgMeDHKnUQkluX4kFXM
I also put the fusion so you can directly edit it in the sketch.
Edit - 6/24/25 added adapters for Imperial PVC pipes, Imperial rods and pipes, and Metric rods and pipes, so you can use wood rods, pvc pipes, aluminum tubes, or anything else smaller than 1.05 inches (26.7). To get them you extract the "Adapters" file, and within there are 3 different folders, for PVC pipes, Imperial, and metric.
