Description

PDF

A basic filament box capable of holding 4 spools of filament. These files provide the basics to build the spool holder and a few extras. The rest you can really build how ever you like. If you want to build it exactly as I have, you will need the materials below.

VERSION 2:

Changes:

  • Made the design a little simpler to use
  • Spool rod is not locked into place. Just slides in and out for easier removal, but will still be retained in place
  • Slightly modified Feeding and Return nuts
  • I am working on a system to eliminate tangles and filament jumping over spool walls. If I finish it, this will be the version it will be based on
  • All print guides and hardware stay the same in version 2

Features:

  • Hygrometer for temperature and humidity levels
  • Individual bowden tubes for each roll
  • Choose to feed the filament out the top or bottom
  • Gasket sealed box
  • Printable PDF drill guides so there is no guessing

Files:

  • Complete Part File - all the parts needed in the correct orientation as I have built this box
  • Spool_Hygrometer - one side of the spool holder with included hygrometer mount. If you don't want the hygrometer print two of the “Spool” files
  • Spool - one side of the spool holder
  • Feeding Nut - this has a smaller hole to allow feeding of the filament from the inside of the box. Goes on the back of the bowden tube pneumatic fittings.
  • Return Nut - this nut has a larger hole in the back to allow storage of the loose end of the bowden tube when not in use. Goes on the back of the bowden tube pneumatic fittings.
  • Plug - used to keep air out of the box when one of the spools is in use. Just plug it into the pneumatic fitting from the outside.
  • Baffles - a file made by nscale to help prevent tangles can be found here
  • Desiccant Box - a desiccant box designed specifically for this dry box. Two of them should fit nicely under the spools. Parametric version can be found here

Required Materials:

Few notes on the supply list; These are affiliate links to the exact materials I bought and they all seem to be good purchases so far. The desiccant pack is probably a little over kill but works very well. I bought two, you really only need one. Also, this project is designed around the Sterilite tub linked above. I think amazon has it but it is only $7 at Walmart.

Print Settings:

Nothing real complex here. I printed at 15% infill with basic settings. I might increase the infill for the base around the 'C' shaped parts and I would maybe do 100% infill on the plug and nuts. Everything else is as normal.
