If you have chickens in your garden or elsewhere to get eggs, then you probably know that it can be a challenge to collect eggs without droppings etc. on the eggs. I have designed this system consisting of a egg draw and a lid with a hole, where a newly laid egg rolls down into the egg draw and is collected on a rubber net that prevents the eggs from breaking.

The chickens will only get in contact with the lid, and it's designed for easy maintenance and cleaning.

The design include:

  • An egg draw
  • A lid to collect the eggs
  • Side bracket to the lid
  • A end stop to the draw

Not included:

You will need a carpet rubber net. (12.5 mm mesh size)

I have build a three nest box system at our chicken house, but it can also be used inside of the chicken house. Some kind of roof above the nest is recommended.

Has been tested for three months, and collects 6-8 eggs from our 8 chickens every day.

Your chicken might need to get used to a new egg nest, but in our case did they use it from the first day.

The mechanical size of the parts:

Egg lid: 256 mm wide and 250 mm deep
Egg draw: 240 mm wide and 80 mm tall

It's recommended to add some distance between the top of the draw and bottom side of the lid.  The end stop and be used to ensure alignment of the egg draw and the lid hole.

Printing instructions:

You can use PLA, PETG, ABS etc.

I will recommend to use a low layer height for the lid (0.1mm or less) to make the surface more smooth.

Infill 10-20%
