This is a simple and effective CR2032 dummy battery designed to let you power 3V devices using alternative power source, for example rechargeable AA or AAA batteries instead of disposable CR2032 cells. It’s an ideal solution for smart sensors, remotes, or any gadget that uses a CR2032 coin cell.
Why use this?
- CR2032 batteries are not rechargeable
- Rechargeable LIR2032s are unsafe (3.7–4.2V vs. 3V)
- 2x AA/AAA in series provides safe 3V power
- Saves money and reduces waste
I use this with multiple Xiaomi temperature and humidity sensors in filament dryboxes and around the house. Works perfectly—even with slightly lower-voltage NiMH rechargeable AAs.
Assembly:
- Uses two pieces of 0.6mm (22–23 AWG) single-core copper wire
- Positive contact (side): 200mm (150mm bare + 50mm insulated)
- Negative contact (center): 150mm (100mm bare + 50mm insulated)
- Wire fits snugly around printed dummy cell body
- You can drill a hole in the device’s back cover for the wire, or print a modified back cover with built-in holes
- Connect wires using wires clamps with battery power source
Happy printing—save money and go green with rechargeable power!
P.S. If you are looking for the solution to reduce 3D printer noise, have a look on soundproof cabinet design, crafted from IKEA furniture. This cabinet reduces printer noise and ensures impressive 36.5 dB(A) at just 1 meter away. Detailed instruction how to build it you may find here
