This kitchen utensil bin has a domed cavity at the bottom to fill with concrete for added stability.

The dome is meant to remove the need for supports, but the dome is more flattened than I expected, so I used supports only for the centre hole, it may not actually need supports

There are printed posts in the cavity to help support the dome, help re-enforce the concrete, and help connect the concrete and plastic.

I used a cement and sand mixture for fine grain and to flow into the corners. I used extra water to make a runny slurry that flowed easily into the form. I also tapped the print to help the concrete into the corners while pouring.

This used a bit over 120ml of concrete slurry, I think I ended up making about 200-250ml in total in a disposable cup, mixed by hand with a chopstick

I used the mix ratio for cement (about 60% cement 40% water), when I should have used the mix ratio for cement and sand (about 90% concrete 20% water i think), but the result worked out as the correct ratio probably wouldn't have poured as well.

I've been looking for ways to use non-printed non-worked materials in 3d prints.

So far I have used pvc pipes, and concrete. The only work done on those items before use were cutting the pipes to length, and mixing and pouring the concrete

I've also glued a non-slip surface to the bottom to further increase stability, that required cutting a circle, which I did freehand, glued it down, trimmed it to a better shape, and glued the edges down

I can actually open my kitchen utensil drawer now that all the long objects are in this bin

I printed this on a flash forge adventurer 4, with 70% infill, I think, so the base was quite heavy even before the concrete. I probably could have printed much lighter infill. If I printed this again, I would print at about 30% infill I think
