I've tried a few different shroud/mount combos for mounting my cartographer to the toolhead on my Creality K2 Plus, but none of them seemed to really work for me very well. The magnets never seemed to be able securely lock together. And none of them had a way to easily (my opinion) secure the wire running to the cartographer. A loose wire seems to cause bad mesh scans and offset issues. I also prefer to have as few supports as possible.

So I changed a few things for my design:

  1. Removed the magnets and added two holes for M3x5.7mm heat set inserts (the same used for securing the Cartographer) to be added on the front of the mount. These are used to secure the shroud to the mount.
  2. Added two millimeters of material to the front of the mount so the heat set inserts for the Cartographer are further away from the edge.
  3. Changed some of the geometry of the shroud so no supports are needed and it can be printed face down. So you use whatever plate you want to add the desired effect.
  4. “Shallowed” out the angle of the front face of the shroud to create more space between the front face and the heat block.
  5. Added 4 holes where Velcro ties can be used to secure the Cartographer cable (see pictures).
  6. Removed the hole used to see the extruder rotation. Never felt much use for this, so I removed it.
  7. Removed chamfers and other angles to optimize for 3D printing.

It may not be pretty, but it is functional, which is all I care about for the purposes of using the Cartographer. Let me know what y'all think!

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Used only the important measurements regarding mounting the cartographer and a couple of dimensions from the shroud. Otherwise I changed the system of securing the shroud to the mount from magnets to heat set inserts with machined screws. Also got rid of the view port for the extruder.
