A different variation of the gridfinity base. This “thin walled” variation minimizes material use, but maximizes stiffness.
I found the standard gridfinity base used too much material, and the ultralight was too flexible.
The thin walled version is best of both worlds. ~50% reduction in material, but nearly 90% as stiff. 0.8mm wall thickness, designed for two perimeters with a 0.4mm nozzle.
Material (g) | print time (min) | Stiffness remaining (%) | |
Standard gridfinity 5x5 | 32 | 89 | - |
Ultralight gridfinity 5x5 | 14 | 61 | 15 |
Thin walled gridfinity 5x5 | 19 | 74 | 90 |
Also including the parametric Blend file used to create the grid. Use the “Master_controller” object and change the custom properties “Grid_X_QTY” and “Grid_Y_QTY” for whatever size desired. Fractional grid sizes are also possible. Uses NURBS for analytically accurate surfaces.
The author remixed this model.
Standard gridfinity uses 32g of material.
Ultralight gridfinity uses 16g of material.
This “Thin walled” variation uses 19g of material, but maximizes stiffness.
