Project:
Reinforced Field Bunker – Żelbetowy Schron Polowy (1939)

Scale:
1:72

Description:
This model is a 1:72 scale representation of a Polish reinforced field bunker from 1939, known as “Żelbetowy Schron Polowy Nr 2”. It was part of the coastal fortifications in the Hel Peninsula area and has been reconstructed using authentic Polish and German technical documentation from the era. Where original plans were missing, I based the geometry on carefully measured dimensions of the surviving structure in Jastarnia.

I had difficulty finding accurate models of the doors used in this bunker. After analyzing various documents, I concluded that the most probable steel-bar grate doors were the Československé mřížové dveře model 37 from Trans-Olza Czechoslovakia. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to identify the exact armored door design, so I created a simplified version.

The model is divided into two printable parts (roof and base) and includes an optional terrain stand—especially useful for tabletop wargaming. You can also print the bunker standalone without the base. Steel-bar grate doors are included, but be careful—they are quite delicate!

Printing details:

  • Designed for FDM printing
  • Requires supports
  • Recommended layer height: 0.08 mm
  • Suggested materials: PLA or PETG

General historical details included (typical of Polish bunkers from 1939):

  • Texture imitating layered concrete pouring, as in real wartime construction
  • Armored entrance door plus two internal steel-bar grate doors
  • Flat roof designed for simulated grass cover (as in camouflaged bunkers)

Unique features of this specific bunker:

  • Functional ventilation system with both intake and exhaust openings (rarely present in this type of construction)
  • Armored plate in the main firing port
  • Asymmetrical front wall with a shortened section near the firing port
  • Entrance designed to match the reused Czechoslovak armored doors, as documented in the Jastarnia fortifications

Final note:
This bunker model is designed both for display and for use in wargaming. I’ve included as many historical details as possible to make it feel authentic and satisfying to paint or incorporate into battlefield scenarios. I hope you enjoy this project as much as I enjoyed creating it!
