I am decorating an area that has 3 dance cabs; a SD DDR Cab running ITGmania, a Pump it Up GX Cab running Prime 2, and a SD DDR Cab running Extreme. I thought it'd be cool to have RGB arrow light boxes above each cab with their corresponding arrows. I found multiple for DDR, a couple(?) for ITG, even one for StepManiaX, but nothing public for Pump it Up. So I made my own.

I haven't tested this model yet so I don't have a BOM, but if you look at other similar projects you should be able to use the same materials here. The holes I made for the screws are 5mm, I tried to countersink the head but since I haven't built it I don't know if it worked. The feet are a separate STL, the idea is that you print them and then glue them in the cutout on the diffuser. It's untested, so ymmv. There are cuts on the bottom corners to run wires through in case I put out Pump arrows.

Outer dimensions are 250mmx250mmx45mm, it barely fits on an X1 Carbon.

Edit 5/25/25:

I've started printing this myself, so I can give a couple tips.

  • Print the feet and frame on the same bed. They're both intended to be printed in black so you won't need any AMS swapping.
  • Print the diffuser in white. You could do other colors like yellow I guess but if you want it to shine a specific color you can use a white diffuser with colored LEDs. That's why this is an “RGB” light box.
  • Superglue the feet into the cutout on the diffuser so they don't fall out.
  • The intended canon orientation for the frame has the wire holes at the bottom.

I'll add more tips as I finish printing and put this together. You could use an Arduino and NeoPixels for LEDs or you can use the cheap strip you find online with a remote and preset animations.
