I wanted to be able to put a paw print stamp in a thank you card. I designed the handle and stamp to be separate so that I could create other stamps and interchange them.

The Process:

Handle

  • Print the handle in PLA (vertical alignment)
  • I like to use organic supports from the bed. It protects the threads and adds more bed adhesion.

Stamp

  • Even though I could do this in PrusaSlicer, I import the generic stamp to Tinkercad because it is much easier.
  • Rotate the generic stamp 90 degrees - I will be 27x27x10
  • Import an SVG file of choice
  • Size it to 22x22x5
  • Elevate the imported SVG to 8mm
  • Select both parts
  • Align middles so parts align, group, and lock them
  • Export to STL
  • Add the combined file to PrusaSlicer
  • Using the PrusaSlicer, Multimaterial settings
    • Print from 0-9.8mm in PLA
    • Print from 9.8 to top in TPU

Since printers are different, the settings and process to swap materials will differ. I have used MK3S and my current printer a Prusa XL following this process.

Comments:

  • I used fine threads on the handle and generic base. This makes screwing the two parts together very hard, but it works with some back-in-forth effort.
  • I've attached the Fusion 360 model for easy remix.
